Lepidium nanum – - From the crucifer family comes this tiny plant. Finely dissected leaves give rise to short stems with cream-colored flowers. This one will need scree conditions in a warm, sunny place. (2”h x 3”w) T, RG, 2.5” - $5.00

Leptodactylon watsonii – - Awl-shaped leaves make a mat with good-sized, cream colored, fragrant flowers that twist open at dusk. Try this in a scree in a warm, sunny place. This is a difficult plant for us at the nursery. (4”h x 6”w) T, RG, 2.5” - $5.50              Out of Stock

Lewisia cotyledon Lewisia cotyledon - From a basal whorl of succulent leaves arise stems with several flowers in shades of white to pink to orange in early summer. This beautiful plant requires careful cultivation to insure a long life. It should be grown in partial shade in a lean, gravelly soil. Lewisia longipetala Lewisia longipetala - A pretty little gem of a plant which is generally hardy and long-lived in our area. Fleshy, linear leaves produce light pink flowers with interesting detailing. Very well drained soil with good light but protection from hot sun. (Note: I have a nice batch of seedllings which I need to confirm as true to species.)(5"h x 5"w) RG, 3.5"-$5.00              Out of Stock

Lewisia nevadensis Lewisia nevadensis - This interesting species produces white flowers on short stems in spring and then goes dormant during the summer. Must have very well drained, gravelly soil in full sun. Keep as dry as possible during the summer. (6"h x 6"w) RG, 2.5" - $5.00

Lewisia oppositiolia - This deciduous species produces linear, fleshy leaves from a rootstock. White or pink flowers are produced on stems before the plant goes dormant for the summer. Requires very well drained soil in a sunny spot with a dry resting period after bloom. (10"h x 6"w) RG, T, 3.5"- $5.00              Out of Stock

Lewisia pygmae - – This is perhaps the easiest of the Lewisia. A clump of fleshy, linear leaves produce several pink flowers in early summer. A certain amount of self-sowing is almost guarantied. Happy in any rock garden soil in full sun. (6”h x 4”w) RG, 2.5” - $5.00, 3.5"-$5.50

Lewisia rediviva (bitter root) Lewisia rediviva (bitter root) - This fascinating species has an interesting history. It was eaten by Native Americans for eons before being collected as an herbarium specimen. The specimen came back to life (hence the name) and has been in cultivation since then. It also happens to have gorgeous, cactus-like flowers in pink or white. It requires a spot in full, even hot sun which will dry out in summer when the plant goes dormant. Soil should be well drained. (6"h x 6"w) RG, 2.5"-$5.00

Lewisia tweedyi Lewisia tweedyi - A beautiful but difficult plant, the 2" flowers in May are an iridescent lemony pink. Native to the mountains of Washington State. Requires pot culture (light shade and a dry period after blooming) or a place in a rock wall facing East. Soil should be rich but well drained. Difficult. (10"h x 8"w) RG, 1 quart-$7.00

Lewisia X ‘Little Plum’ (Lewisia longipetala x L. cotyledon) Lewisia X ‘Little Plum’ (Lewisia longipetala x L. cotyledon) - This often-made cross produces vigorous plants with the best qualities of each parent. Numerous pink flowers in early summer over attractive basal clumps of bright green leaves. Give it good light with protection from hot sun in a very well drained, fertile soil. Linnaea borealis (Twinflower) – Linnaea borealis (Twinflower) – - Twinflower is a pleasing miniature for the shade garden. In the moist, humus-rich, acidic soil which it prefers, it will make a dense ground cover of shinny leaves. The tiny twinflowers have a delightful fragrance. Linum suffruticosum ssp. salsoloides Linum suffruticosum ssp. salsoloides - A white-flowered species from southern Europe, this one forms a low mound of awl-shaped leaves with stems 8" high. Lobelia cardinalis (Cardinal flower) Lobelia cardinalis (Cardinal flower) - For the garden in late summer, the brilliant red of the cardinal flower is a must. This native of eastern North America is often found along the banks of rivers or in wet meadows. In gardens, it will flourish in wet situations but tolerate merely moist soil in full sun to light shade. It will self-sow in a wet situation. (24"h x 12"w) 1 quart - $5.50
