Penstemon caespitosus v. caespitosus Penstemon caespitosus v. caespitosus - A mat-forming species with tiny leaves which produce blue to violet tubular flowers in summer. Winter die-back is possible and should be trimmed in the spring. Place in a sunny, even hot spot in very well drained soil or scree or in a trough. Penstemon davidsoni v. menziesii - This variety is very similar to the species which is one of the finest miniature Penstemons for the rock garden. From a mat of tiny, shinny leaves come inch long, blue/purple, tubular flowers in summer. Requires scree or very well drained soil in full sun. (3"w x 8"w) RG, T, 3.5" - $5.50

Penstemon davidsoni v. menziesii microphyllus - This small, shrubby Penstemon has attractive blue flowers on very short stems. This variety seems to be more amenable to eastern conditions than the species. Prefers very well drained soil in a warm, sunny location. (5”h x 8”w) RG, T, 3.5” - $5.50

Penstemon hallii Penstemon hallii - From a tuft of linear leaves emerge sort spikes of blue/violet flowers in summer. Not difficult but requires very well drained soil in full sun. Seed collect in Park Co, Co. (6"h x 4"w) RG, T, 2.5" - $5.00

Petrocalis pyrenaica - From the Spanish Pyrenees Mountains comes this Draba relative which is very attractive. Pink, crucifer flowers are held just above a mat of finely divided foliage. I have found this plant to be quite winter hardy but not easy to grow. Try a fertile scree bed in full sun in a spot that doesn’t get too hot. One to a customer, please. Petrophyton caespitosum - This is the slowest growing plant we have. These two-inch cushions are 3 years old. When they bloom, expect 2” tall racemes of white flowers. (2”h x 3”w) T, RG, 2.5” - $8.00

Phlox caespitosa ssp. pulvinata – Phlox caespitosa ssp. pulvinata – - This western Phlox makes a cushion of awl-shaped leaves with good-sized, pale blue flowers in summer. Probably it will require scree conditions or very well drained soil, which is not too rich, in full sun. One to a customer please. (3"h x 5"w) RG, T, 3.5"- $5.50              Out of Stock

Phlox ‘Unique’ - A small, clump-forming Phlox which is covered with pink flowers in spring. Nice in the rock garden or trough. Any well drained soil in full sun. (5”h x 5”w) RG,T, 3.5” - $5.00

Picea mariana ‘Nana’ – - This black spruce miniature looks like a blue-green hedgehog. This extremely slow growing conifer would be nice in a trough. The size listed is after a decade of growth. (This offering is of two-year-old plants from cuttings). (7"h x 9"w) T, 3.5" - $6.00

Polemonium chartaceum - An alpine Jacob’s Ladder which makes tight rosettes of hairy leaves and stems with balls of blue flowers just above. Choice plant. Requires scree conditions in full sun in a spot that is not too warm. (6”h x 6”w) RG, T, 2.5” - $ 5.50

Primula marginata ‘Mini’ - This selection of a wonderful alpine species is small in all regard – little leaves and small but very pretty blue flowers in spring. A nice plant for a trough. Primula marginata ‘Napoleon’ – - This attractive P. marginata selection features an overall smaller size. Lavender blue flowers are produced in profusion. . Needs a well drained, fertile soil in morning sun only or light shade. (3”h x 4”w) T, RG, 2.5” - $6.00              Out of Stock

Primula wulfeniana – - This species is one of the many European alpine Primula. It produces a basal clump of leaves with pink flowers with a white eye on short stems. While fairly easy to grow, it may be shy to flower well. Try it in a very well drained, fertile soil with light shade. (4”h x 5”w) T, RG, 2.5” - $5.50

Primula x allionii ‘Airemist’ - This P. allionii hybrid along with the following listings are much hardier than the species. Look for beautiful white flowers on short stems.
