Salix yezoalpina - This willow from Japan features attractive, brownish branches that root as they spread. Leaves are particularly attractive in the early spring as they are covered with silky hair. Salvia argenta Salvia argenta - Incredibly fuzzy, rosettes of gray leaves are attractive in their own right. Three- foot high stems produce white flowers. As rosettes are monocarpic, make sure to keep one rosette from blooming to maintain the plant. Good, well drained garden soil in full sun. (36”h x 12”w) 1 gallon -$7.50

Saxifraga federici-augusti ssp. grisebachii - This plant is one of my favorites. A tight rosette of silver encrusted leaves give way to a bright red flowering stem. The colony will slowly expand. The effect is stunning. Best in a well drained soil in afternoon shade to protect from too much heat. This offering is of 2 year-old plants that should begin to bloom this year. Saxifraga flagellaris - From the arctic comes this unusual species. A rosette of tiny leaves produce stems with a few yellow flowers. Then, red runners emerge from the rosette and form new rosettes. This plant is similar to Androsace sempervivoides except in flower. In its native habitat, it is often found in quite damp locations. Saxifraga longifolia - This European alpine species makes large rosettes of strap like, encrusted leaves and, after several years, flowering stems with many small white floweres. Saxifraga longifolia hybrid Saxifraga longifolia hybrid - This hybrid is clearly from the silver encrusted group of Saxifraga. Narrow, five inch long straps radiate out from the base. Saxifraga ‘Mixed Silvers’ Collection - This is several batches of seedlings of mainly S. paniculata origin. Saxifraga ‘Southside Seedling’ - This seems to be the real thing which is confused in the trade. Rosettes of broad, encrusted leaves produce clusters of white flowers with large, red blotches. Sedum spinosum Sedum spinosum - An unusual and choice Sedum which forms tight rosettes of tiny succulent leaves. These leaves are arranged such that they form an outer ring of longer slightly flared leaves surrounding a flat center of tightly packed leaves. Sisyrinchium angustifolium ‘Lucerne’ Sisyrinchium angustifolium ‘Lucerne’ - In spring the Iris-like blades produce many blue flowers in summer. This is a selected form of our native blue-eyed grass with large flowers and a longer bloom period. I believe it is sterile which may explain its habit. Happy in any good garden soil in full sun.
