Kirengeshoma palmata Kirengeshoma palmata - This stunning woodlander grows to 4 to 6 feet tall with attractive, maple-like leaves and clusters of yellow, pendulant bells in late summer. Linnaea borealis (Twinflower) – Linnaea borealis (Twinflower) – - Twinflower is a pleasing miniature for the shade garden. In the moist, humus-rich, acidic soil which it prefers, it will make a dense ground cover of shinny leaves. The tiny twinflowers have a delightful fragrance. Meconopsis betonifcifolia - The beautiful Himalayan poppy produces its sky-blue flowers on 3 foot stems in spring. It will succeed in fertile, moist, humus-rich soil in partial shade in a cool spot. Acid soil will improve the color. Do not allow to bloom the first year. Not easy but definitely possible in areas where summers are mild. (36"h x 12"w) W, 3.5"-$6.00, 1 quart-$7.50

Meconopsis X Blue cross (=hort. X sheldonii) - Meconopsis X Blue cross (=hort. X sheldonii) - - This hybrid between M. betonicifolia and M. grandis is usually easier than either species. The blue poppy flowers are similar to the parents. Requires fertile, moist, humus-rich soil in partial shade in a cool spot. Do not allow to bloom the first year. Difficult. Mukdenia rossii - This woodlander is a member of the Saxifraga family. Spikes of white flowers are produced in the spring followed by attractive leaves, which persist all season. Prefers a moist, fertile soil in light shade. (12"h x 10"w) W, 1 quart - $6.00

Phlox divaricata ‘London Grove’ - This Phlox is quite adaptable to planting sites. It is happy in semi-shade to full sun in cooler areas. A clump of 12” stems are covered with attractive blue flowers in late spring. Any good garden soil which doesn’t dry out completely is fine. (12”h x 12”w) 3.5” - $5.00

Phlox stolonifera Phlox stolonifera - A very pretty clone of this woodlander produces blue/purple or white flowers on a creeping mat of green leaves. Best in partial shade in fertile, slightly acidic soil. Chose blue/purple or white flowers. (10"h x 25"w) W, 3.5"-$5.00

Polygonatum humile Polygonatum humile - One of the smallest of the genus which will form a very nice ground cover in a rich, shady spot. The flowers hang in pairs from the leaf axis. Northern Asia. (8"hx spreading) W, 1 quart-$5.50

Primula kisoana Primula kisoana - Pink flowers come in May on 8" stems. This is an excellent woodland species from Japan that spreads slowly by underground runners into a colony. Needs a rich, humus soil in partial shade. Easy (8"h x 12"w) W, 2.5"- $6.00

Primula sieboldii ‘Fancy’ - These selections have been made by Paul Held. They include a variety of flower shapes and colors but all are very pretty. Plant in light shade in a well drained, moist, fertile soil. Will go dormant in late August. (10”h x 8”w) W, 3.5” - $6.00

Saxifraga Saxifraga x urbium ‘Variegata Aureo- punctata’ - This shade lover features attractive foliage of green with gold spots. Small white flowers are produced on 15" stems in summer. Refers a moist, fertile soil in shade or morning sun. (15"h x 12"w) 3.5"- $5.00

Smilacina racemosa (False Solomon Seal) - A native woodlander which produces fluffy white flowers on 3 foot stems. Over time, it expands into small clumps. Get it a shady spot in a well drained soil. (30”h x 10”w) W, 3.5” - $5.50

Thalictrum kiusianum Thalictrum kiusianum - A miniature Thalictrum for a bright spot at the edge of a woodland garden. Pretty columbine-like leaves are followed by puffs of pink/purple florets. Rich, well drained soil in partial shade. Late to reappear in spring. ( 5"h x 7"w) W, 3.5" - $5.00

Uvularia grandiflora - Our eastern native “Merrybells” is a lovely, long-lived addition to the woodland garden. A clump of bright green leaves produce pendulant, large yellow flowers. Plant in a woodland setting with a neutral to limy, moist soil. (14”h x 7”w) W, 1 quart - $6.00

Viola canadensis - This viola is perfect for a shady area where a pleasant ground cover is wanted. White flowers tinged with violet on 10” stems arise from clumps. Viola coreana (Hort.= Viola coreana Syletta) - I can’t peg down the correct name for this Viola, which is none-the-less, established in the trade. It is a pretty foliage plant with leaf veins outlined in silver. It will be happy in a spot in partial shade.in moist, fertile soil and will self sow in a very genteel manner where it wishes to grow.
